Made from strong cedar wood, the Hazel Climbing Frame is a beautifully crafted playset that will not only look stunning in your garden, but it is also packed full of features from front to back that will provide the children with endless hours of entertainment. Carefully designed to provide a smaller overall layout footprint whilst maximising the amount of play features, the Hazel climbing frame is bound to be a hit with everyone and will help to ensure that your children are the envy of the local kids. With such great play features as the comfortable belt swings, monkey bars, rockwall ladder, slippery slide, kitchenette, chalkwall and sandpit area, it really is like bringing the fun of the playground into your back garden.

Fort Features

The main fort structure is constructed from a number of strong wooden panels that are connected together to make a strong secure structure which allows all of the other play accessories to connect to. Finished in a beautiful redwood water based stain, the fort will stand commandingly in your garden at an impressive 268cm above the ground, whilst the upper play deck area is 120cm from ground level and measures approximately 91cm x 91cm.

Swing Features

Children love swings, the feeling of zipping through the air with the wind rushing past your face is amazing. Located to the left of the main fort structure is the Hazel's swing beam, which is constructed using a number of strong beams and metal brackets. The belt swings themselves are made from a flexible plastic that allows it to mould perfectly to your childs seating position providing a tight, secure, but most importantly comfortable swinging position.

Slide Features

Always a popular feature, the yellow straight wave slide exits from the upper fort 120cm (1.2m) from ground level and provides a speedy, fun and exciting descent down to the ground. The slide features high raised edges as an added safety feature providing secure hand grips for your child when they are maneuvering into a seating position to start their journey. The base of the slide features a reduced gradient allowing for a safe and secure exit from the slide.

Climbing Features

The Hazel includes the rockwall ladder as a climbing feature which leads to the upper fort level. The rockwall ladder is designed for climbers of all abilities & enters the fort from the front and is constructed from a number of wooden slats, which feature brightly coloured green and yellow rockwall mounts.

Play Features

On the lower fort level of the Hazel Climbing Frame is a cafe counter area which features a kitchenette set of sink and hob. Whilst the internal area of the lower fort would make the ideal location for a sandpit area. The raised edges of the lower level provides a perfect barrier to ensure that the sand is kept within the space provided. We highly recommend placing a weed suppresant membrane down before adding any bags of play sand.

Super Cool
  • The kit is very well engineered, the instruction booklet is clear and well-illustrated, and the many fastenings are excellently bagged and labelled. For an efficient and quick assembly I recommend, as preparation:

    1. Having a portable electric drill fitted with a 1/8-inch drill bit plus and another drill fitted with a nut driver to drive the sockets to tighten the bolts into the highly effective T-nuts which are captive in the timbers.

    2. All the screws are "square drive". The kit comes with the correct bit, known as a Robertson number 2. I bought a spare bit from Ebay for a couple of pounds in case I damaged the one with the kit, but this turned out to be unnecessary.

    3. A lot of time can be wasted when sorting through the many timbers to find the next one in the assembly. There are about 20 different sizes of timber. They should have a code number stamped in ink in the end grain. Some of these were illegible, but the Manual gives the Imperial dimensions and drawing of each shape, so these can be cross-referenced to the ink stamps for a confirmed identification. An efficient method of quick identification, but one which requires a large area of ground, is to lay out the planks in increasing length, with one row of ends level with each other.

    4. There are about 20 bags of different sizes of screws, bolts and T-nuts. The bags are clearly labelled with the size and description of the fastenings, as well as a unique code number for each bag. Much time will be saved by laying out the bags on a flat surface, in order of their code numbers, as referred to in the Manual.

    5. Prepare the ground so that the base of the tower will be flat and level, and that the legs of the swing beam support are on the same level plane as the base of the tower. This has to be accurate, as the swing beam and tower are rigidly bolted together. I had the complication of a sloping site, so I used a laser level on 6 pegs to achieve this. I made temporary use of the ground pegs supplied with the kit.

Once I had completed the above preparation, I assembled the frame with the help of a granddaughter to hand me the correct fastenings and tools, and the job was completed in five hours. I am most impressed with the kit and the engineering, but I leave the final verdict to my 3 year-old great-grandson: "Super Cool"!
